Sketch Sunday 23

For this week’s Sketch Sunday, I went with a sketch from the My Favorite Things’ sketch challenge (which can be found here – Since I organized my stamps (but didn’t bring them upstairs to the craft room yet!), I went though them as I sat and watched tv tonight. I found a couple of sets that hadn’t ever been used or had only been used once. I then looked at the sketch and realized that I needed some paper for the background.

For the 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ white card base, I used some white Recollections 65 lb card stock. I knew I wanted to use the cassette tape die from MFT that has been in my stash for so long, unused! I cut the bottom layer out of black card stock from Recollections and the label from the same white as the base. I also stamped the label from the MFT Journal It Playlist in Hero Arts Shadow Ink in Pale Tomato.

For the background of the card, I thought I wanted something with hearts because I wanted to create a love/Valentine’s day card. I was looking for some vellum that was leftover from the wedding invitations that I did for my friend Alicia and came across something under my desk that changed the theme of the card. When I saw that the Crate Paper Party Day paper had music notes with “Happy Birthday”, I changed focus. I now needed a new sentiment, so I dug through my stamp sets. I couldn’t find any ready made sentiments that I liked, so I made my own!

First, I saw the word “EPIC” in the Journal It Playlist stamp set from My Favorite Things and decided I wanted it to say “Wishing You an epic birthday”. Next I found the “Wishing You” from the MFT Merry Messages stamp set and the “Birthday” from the MFT Delicious Birthday stamp set. The “an” was more difficult to get, but I finally found the sentiment “You Are an” in the MFT Be Original set. Lastly, I stamped these all in Hero Arts Shadow Ink in Pale Tomato on some white Recollections card stock. I then mounted that on some of the same Crate Paper that I used for the front of the card.

To finish off the front of the card I used the MFT Jumbo Squiggle Border die with some vellum to make the scallop design that is at the bottom of the sketch. I also cut a piece of vellum that was a little bit smaller than the cassette tape die cut so that there was a backing to the tape.

Here is what the card looks like:photo-49image-2

Sketch Sunday #21

I finally got a Sketch Sunday done on a Sunday – go me! HAHA. This week the sketch inspiration came from the MFT Card Challenge. I usually use that because I love their stamps and their sketches – plus I use the card as my entry to their challenge every week. (Or as close to every week as I can get!!)

This week’s sketch can be found here:

For my card I used the Lawn Fawn Journaling die to cut out some Canson XL 140 lb watercolor paper. I used girl from the Pure Innocence Serenity stamp set and stamped her with some Versamark ink. I heat set it with some Ebony embossing powder from Recollections. I stamped the sentiment from the MFT You Make the Day stamp set and heat set it with the same Ebony embossing powder.

I used the same journaling die to cut out the middle of a piece of Crate Paper designer paper so that I could inlay the watercolor piece into it. I also die cut a stitched circle and a star from Sizzix and Lifestyle crafts. Then I assembled the card on a 4″ x 5 1/2″ card base.

Two posts in one day??

Posted on

First I neglect my blog now I can’t stop writing? What’s the deal? Well, I decided that I had some down time while I was in a creative block and I thought writing might help. I did my Sketch Sunday video, edited it and uploaded it to YouTube. And that’s the reason for this post.

I was going through my supplies earlier today because I wanted to use something that I haven’t used in awhile. I found some Hero Arts Neon inks that I just HAD to have. It’s not that I didn’t use them because I did. But, unlike my distress inks, which I seem to use for every project, I haven’t used these in awhile.

I also saw the pack of kraft card stock that has been sitting in my cube underneath my tv for awhile, unused. I had never tried neon inks on kraft (or at least if I did I don’t remember). I thought that I would give that a try. I only ended up using one color on the kraft card stock for this project. (On a practice piece, I used all four neon inks that I have). I love the results because it’s not as neon as if you used them on white, but it’s still pretty vibrant.

Here’s the video of how I made the card and the sketch I used to make it. Click here for the Sketch Sunday video

Trying something new…..

I am starting something new and I am hoping that 1 – I can keep it up and 2 – it will help to better link my social media sites together. I’ve seen many successful bloggers that do this, so I am hoping on the bandwagon and I am hoping you all will help keep me on track.

I am going to write a post about any YouTube video that I make. It’s more beneficial for the card making design videos I do, but I want to try it with even the haul videos. Today’s video is a mix of my last blog post about the canvases and a shopping haul.

If you read my last post, you know that I made two canvases – one using distress ink and one using paint. While I do like the way the distress inked one came out, the ink doesn’t totally dry and it rubs off on your hands. Not a great thing to have happen lol. The second canvas was done in a dark blue paint. The first time I tried to write the quote I used paint. That didn’t turn out so great so I repainted the canvas and I took a silver marker and wrote the quote on it.

As for the haul, I think I found a lot of great products. First, if you haven’t checked out AC Moore’s new app, download it. You get a 55% off coupon and for today I believe there is also a 55% off coupon. (It’s either today or tomorrow I can’t remember). And, if you don’t know this either, you can use AC Moore coupons at Michael’s! I did yesterday and I got a pack of 2 rolls of ATG tape for $4.50! That’s the acid free one too. Pretty good deal!

I like to go down the aisles and check out the red clearance tagged items. I found two new punches this way. They are EK Success ones, which are good quality. Punches can be hard to store, but I do have some room in my craft closet for a couple more! : )

I also like to pay attention to the signs. Lots of stores are careless when they take down signs. Some aren’t taken down and you can get last week’s sale price if they forget. I’ve done that many of times. Also, if the products are in two locations (like the Heidi Swapp stuff I show in the video below), there may not always be a second sign. That’s frustrating as a consumer, but you have to keep your eyes peeled at all times!! You never know what you might find!

So, here’s the video:

New Idea by Accident

Yesterday I was in AC Moore, looking at the $2 discount stamp bin when a woman came over and asked for my help. She was making invitations for two different occasions (a tea party for adults and a youth event for teenage girls). She had three stamps in her hands and wanted to know which one I thought would be best for her to buy for both invitations. We got to talking and I gave her some ideas of doing invitations differently than what she had in mind. She said I knew you knew what you were doing when I saw you digging through that bin! I told her that this is what I did for a side business and she asked for my card. (Note to self – start keeping some business cards on you at ALL times!!)

Unfortunately I didn’t have any on me, but we were in a craft store with paper and markers around. I used a sheet of paper that they have to test markers and gave her my info. This exchange gave me an idea – if I could give her different ideas to make invitations, why shouldn’t I make some and add them to my shop? So last night, I did a mock up for a tea party invitation. I think that it came out really cute. Here it is – what do you think?

It will have a matching envelope. I am using the We R Memory Keepers Punch Board to create one. I will probably add a little something to it as well – something tea party themed and maybe even some of that same background paper to make it all cohesive. I’m excited about all of these new ideas. Stay tuned for more. I plan on working on some gift tags – maybe some to go along with the invitations….. : )

New Year, New Projects

Well, Happy 2014 everyone! I hope that this year is a great one. Last year was a tough one for my family. We lost three family members in less than three weeks, right before the holidays. There were also some more personal losses I suffered this year, but I am hoping that 2014 is a turnaround year!

Especially professionally. I have been struggling with work since I came back from being on disability. I just don’t seem to have the passion for it and I long to be home, creating things for my other business. But since I can’t live off of what I make from there, I need to try to rekindle some fondness for my job before I become completely miserable.

Which is why I have been working so hard on coming up with new designs and new ideas for Etsy! I started making cards and other projects to submit to magazines and now I just need to photograph them and actually send them in. I wish I should show them to you because they are different from what I normally do, but the rules say it can’t be shown anywhere else. That is, until it is accepted. (If it is accepted?)

I am also working on some baby albums for my Etsy shop. I searched Etsy this morning to see what was available and I couldn’t find anything like what I wanted to make. This can either be good because I could fill a void or it could be terrible because no one wants them! But, instead of doubting myself, I am going to go ahead and make it and see what happens. Who know – it could be a hit!

Another project I want to add are tags. I made some for a baby shower and some for Christmas. I would love to be able to sell some for party or wedding favors, either as a thank you or with the bride and groom’s initials or themed items on there. I made the ones for my sister’s shower and I think they came out really cute! (Not that I am biased or anything!)

So, with a long To-Do List and a great iTunes playlist to keep me occupied, I am off to make some new things for my shop. I hope to be able to post pictures soon of the new projects. Then again, you could always go over to my shop and check them out : ) (Shameless plug, I know!)

No one was watching me….

And I bought TWO more Cricut cartridges! I am out of control!! I bought Mickey and Friends and Disney Classics from Joann’s two weeks ago because they were $30 each. I looked on Amazon and people wanted $50 or $60 (or more) for them!! So of course I had to buy them – and more. I bought some cute stamp sets, Hero Arts neon inks and distress inks as well. I swore that was the last of my shopping spree because earlier in the week……

I bought stamp sets from Gina K Designs. And not just a couple. She was having a 50% off sale of all her duo sets. If you buy 6 sets of stamps (you have to buy 2 or 3 duos to count as 1 stamp set), then you get a FREE set. Of course I had to buy enough to qualify for the FREE set! So, I did. But then, even earlier in the week……

I bought from Simon Says Stamp. I just NEEDED those Hero Arts shadow inks. I had to have them. So many people who make videos on YouTube have them that I decided I had to get them. And, since at this point I didn’t know I was ordering from two more stores that week, I decided I had to get some new stamps. I got some Lawn Fawn, Technique Tuesday and Paper Smooches stamp sets, along with a Simon Says Stamp exclusive stamp and die set.

Although this seems like a lot of things (and it is, don’t get me wrong), I have been using them. I would say I used about 50% of the products overall so far. And it’s only been a little over a week since I got most of them. I’m having a great time making all kinds of projects and coming up with new ideas for these stamp sets and Cricut cartridges.

Before I forget, I did do some major damage at Michael’s a couple of weeks ago. I got a TON of new papers and I also got the Cricut Mini albums cartridge. Stay tuned to tomorrow’s post for a blog hop that features one of the projects that I have made with this album. (Plus, you will also get the chance to see four of my fellow teammates’ projects – you won’t be disappointed!!)

I think that I am done with shopping now. I need to get back into my craft room and create. I posted a lot of new projects yesterday to my Etsy shop. If you want to see what I bought or made, check out these sites: (Joann’s haul – other haul videos are listed on my channel) (my Facebook page, where I have posted pictures of new projects and links to my YouTube videos)
