Sketch Sunday #32

I can’t believe that I have done 32 weeks of challenges! True, it wasn’t 32 straight weeks. I have never been that great at consistency, unfortunately. But lately I have been trying to be better at it. Sometimes life just gets in the way!

Anyway, this week’s sketch comes from My Favorite Things. I like doing their challenges because it doesn’t take long to look for the sketch and I get a chance to win an awesome prize! Here is the link to the sketch if you want to play along:http://www.cardchallenges.com/2015/08/wednesday-sketch-challenge-sketch-242.html

I made a video for Sketch Sunday showing how I put the card together. I also did a voice over in this one, which is something I haven’t done for awhile. Usually I don’t have much time to edit the video, so it goes up as is!

Sketch Sunday is BACK!

So, yes this post is a day late. But, I did make the video for it Saturday night (technically VERY early Sunday morning!). I finally found some time to create and let me tell you, it felt amazing to start making crafty things again! I made several cards this weekend and here’s the YouTube video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIqj8XPY568

First, I started out with 120 lb white card stock that I got from Michael’s. I decided to make it a side folding card. I then used 60 lb white card stock to cut out the largest My Favorite Things In and Out Diagonal Stitched Rectangle dies in my Cuttlebug. After it was cut out, I used the My Favorite Things Myriad Dots Mixable stencil with some Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean distress ink with a round ink blending tool to create a dot pattern. I cut out a piece of white card stock a 1/8 of an inch larger than this piece and inked around the edges with the same two distress inks so that it would create a nice mat that would match the first layer perfectly.

The second largest die from the MFT In and Out Diagonal Stitched dies was used with one of the blue paper packs I got from the Michael’s Dollar section. The last thing I used the Cuttlebug for was to cut out three layers of letters from My Favorite Things. (I can’t remember the name of the letter die set that I used. It’s an all lowercase alphabet die set from them though). I used the Salty Ocean distress ink on some white card stock and cut out the first set of letters. The next two sets were done in plain white card stock and then I layered them together. This gave the card some dimension and took the place of the banner from the sketch.

The last element on the card was a circle I cut using the x-large Fiskar’s circle punch. I used the same white card stock that I used for all the layers (except the base). The sentiment was from the My Favorite Things Beautiful Baby stamp set and was inked up using Hero Arts Shadow Ink Cornflower in Mid Tone. I also inked around the edge of the circle in Salty Ocean distress ink.

Sketch Sunday # 28

I have so many supplies that I haven’t used. I have been trying to be good and not buy more, but it’s so tough when companies come out with such adorable things every month. However, since I am unemployed (just for a week in between my old and new jobs!), I decided that I need to be extra good and not buy anything. Plus, with my sister in law’s baby shower coming up next week, I need to focus my time and energy on finishing the decorations for her shower.

So, instead of browsing the normal websites, I decided to browse my collection of stamps and find things that I haven’t used (or haven’t used that much). I used the usual sketch challenge this week and drew the sketch on a scratch piece of paper. I labeled parts of the sketch with what stamps I thought I would use. For the most part I think that I did use what I said I was going to use.

I started off with the background of the card. I bought the My Favorite Things Happy Birthday background stamp in one of the last hauls and I inked it up with MFT’s hybrid ink in Grape Jelly. It was the lightest of the three purple inks I chose for the card. The card base is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and the birthday stamped piece is an 1/8″ smaller. When I use background stamps like this, I ink up the stamp and then bring the paper to the stamp. This makes it easier to line up the stamp straight and it easier for me to apply even pressure so that I am sure that the whole piece got inked up.

I then took a piece of scrap card stock that was 3″ wide and stamped the cupcake tower image from the MFT Cupcake Cuties stamp set. I placed it on the happy birthday stamped layer to see what angle I needed the piece at, stamped and then cut the piece down. Then I placed the cupcake tower mask over the stamped image and inked up the MFT burlap background stamp in My Favorite Things Pure Plum hybrid ink. I took the piece, image side down, and placed it over the background stamp to give that piece some texture. When I removed the mask, there was a small white border around the image. It didn’t bother me, but if this will bother you, you can use masking fluid or rubber cement on the image, stamp the background over the image and then peel up the “mask”.

After I attached the smaller piece to the background, I rounded the top left corner and attached them both to the card base. I then stamped up the sentiment “Let’s Celebrate” in Hero Arts Shadow Ink Grape Juice. The finishing touch on the card came when I added the sequins that I made to match the three colors of ink I used to stamp the card in. I had taken some scrap card stock, swiped all three inks in a line and used my MFT sequins dies to create the embellishments.

This is where I stopped in the video. After I was done filming, I decided to take a bunch of markers and glitter pens I had in purple and colored in the cupcake tower. Since I wanted the card to remain monochromatic, I made sure to only use purple colors. I thought the card needed a little more so I also used some glossy accents on the sequins and the table cloth for the cupcake tower.

Sketch Sunday #25

So this week’s Sketch Sunday has a “wild” theme! I bought the stamp and die set from My Favorite Things because of the lion in it awhile ago, but never used it. I originally bought it because in one of the pictures of one of my nieces in the NICU she looked like she was roaring so my sister called her a lion. I thought the lion stamp would be cute when I do her scrapbook. I know, I know – I bought a whole stamp set AND the matching dies for one stamp and die?? To prove I wasn’t crazy, I decided to use them in tonight’s Sketch Sunday.

The inspiration for the card came from the Card Challenge Sketch over at My Favorite Things. (Sketch 214) http://www.cardchallenges.com/search/label/sketchchallenge. I wanted to also use the background stamp that I bought but never used either. So, I took the zebra stamp from Wild Things, the zebra die from Wild Things and the Zebra Background stamp out of my stamp holders and started to formulate a design from the sketch.

I first cut the card base down to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ from white card stock and then a black piece of card stock to 4″ x 5 1/4″. I also cut a smaller piece of white card stock an 1/8″ of an inch smaller than the black card stock layer. I inked up the background stamp with some My Favorite Things Black Licorice Hybrid ink and stamped it on the smallest white card stock layer. Next, I took one of my Spellbinders circle dies and put about 3/4 of the circle on the stamped card stock and ran it though my Cuttlebug to create a cut out on the right side. This would allow the black card stock to show through.

I adhered the stamped piece to the black layer and then those layers to the card base. Using the Hero Arts Shadow Ink in Red Royal, I stamped the sentiment “Wild About You” onto a small scrap of white card stock, which measures 3/4″ x 2 3/4″. I glued the sentiment piece down to the card base and then went to work on the focal image.

Since I had already die cut the wafer thin zebra die from white card stock, I used the MFT black licorice ink to ink up the zebra stamp and stamp the image onto the cut out. I then used pop dots on the back of the image and attached it to the card base so that it was raised above the rest of the card layers. Finally, I placed a thin layer of glossy accents on top of the zebra for some added interest.

The final step of the card was to add some bling underneath the sentiment. I used Bling It red pearls. They are on a row all together, so I cut off three and then separated them so I could space them out better than I did on the original in the video.

This card would be cute for Valentine’s Day, an anniversary, a birthday – really almost any occasion! Here is the final version of the card:GetAttachment-4.aspx

Wine Themed Bridal Card

Hi everyone! I am trying this adding a video instead of just a post to wordpress. Hopefully this works! This video shows how to use a Tim Holtz diffuser with an embossing folder to create an unembossed area on a card front. I also talk about using a Versamark pen instead of a Versamark ink pad so that you can color in an image with different color embossing powders. It was actually really easy to do and gives a cool effect!

The card measures 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. The white embossed mat is 4″ x 5 1/4″ and the red mat that is behind it is an 1/8th of an inch larger than the embossed piece. The red mat on the inside is the same as the mat on the front.

Supplies used are:
110 lb Recollections white card stock
Recollections red card stock (from open card stock section at Michael’s)
Fiskars wine and cheese stamp set
Cricut Hugs and Kisses embossing folder
Tim Holtz diffuser (comes in a set of 3 )
Versamark pen
Stazon Jet Black ink
Studio G black marker
Recollections embossing powder in Raspberry and Pesto
Hero Arts Shadow ink Raspberry Jam
Stampabilities stamp – And the story begins

Buying Haul

I recently bought from Simon Says Stamp online and then from a new Joann’s store. In my day job, I got a bunch of new stores and by one of them was a brand new Joann’s. It was the largest one I’ve ever seen and it was awesome. My local store only has maybe two aisles of scrapbooking items. This store, however, had as much as my local Michael’s or AC Moore. (If you want to see the video from the hauls, go to my YouTube – chelebelle).

SInce I bought ALL of these new supplies, I decided that I needed to use some of them to create some new projects. So I did! I made four cards (three from supplies I bought in those hauls). The first card is a kraft card base that I used Tumbled Glass distress ink and a stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop to create a swirled background. Then I used the same color ink and stamped a GIna K Design sentiment stamp on a piece of white card stock and attached it to the front of the cardbase. I added three small teal colored gems to the bottom of the sentiment piece.

The second card was made from black card stock. I then cut a piece of white cardstock a 1/4″ smaller and inked the whole piece up in three colors of distress ink – Tattered Rose, Picked Raspberry and Worn Lipstick. I did the same to a smaller piece of card stock so I would have another layer for the top of the card. I took the larger inked up piece and ran it through a Lifestyle Crafts embossing folder that has roses on it. After that I sprayed some glitter mist on it for a little shine. On the smaller piece I stamped the two birds with a heart above them from a stamp set from Joann’s (Fiskars I believe) and then matted it with some black card stock.

The third card I made was using the “XOXOXOXO” die from Simon Says Stamp. I inked up a piece of white cardstock with chipped sapphire, dusty concord and milled lavender distress ink and then ran the die through my Cuttlebug to create a bunch of ombre strips. I also used a black cardbase for this card and covered the top with some white and purple washi tape. Then I placed a “XO” strip under it and alternated them to the bottom of the card.

The final card comes from another exclusive Simon Says Stamp set. This one is a stamp and die set, which I am really loving. The centers of the “O’s” from the above pieces were used to create the polka dot background of this card. I glued them down onto the white card stock and then cut another piece of white cardstock from the Nestabilities die. I used the same three colors of distress ink to color in the background for the bra and hanger to sit on. I stamped the bra in two shades of Hero Arts Shadow ink (Pool and Tide Pool I believe). Then I used the dies to cut out the bra, hanger and the bow. The last step before putting the card together was to cut a small piece of white card stock for the sentiment. I stamped it with the two colors of the bra.

Here is a picture of all four cards, which will hopefully be going up on Etsy soon!

No one was watching me….

And I bought TWO more Cricut cartridges! I am out of control!! I bought Mickey and Friends and Disney Classics from Joann’s two weeks ago because they were $30 each. I looked on Amazon and people wanted $50 or $60 (or more) for them!! So of course I had to buy them – and more. I bought some cute stamp sets, Hero Arts neon inks and distress inks as well. I swore that was the last of my shopping spree because earlier in the week……

I bought stamp sets from Gina K Designs. And not just a couple. She was having a 50% off sale of all her duo sets. If you buy 6 sets of stamps (you have to buy 2 or 3 duos to count as 1 stamp set), then you get a FREE set. Of course I had to buy enough to qualify for the FREE set! So, I did. But then, even earlier in the week……

I bought from Simon Says Stamp. I just NEEDED those Hero Arts shadow inks. I had to have them. So many people who make videos on YouTube have them that I decided I had to get them. And, since at this point I didn’t know I was ordering from two more stores that week, I decided I had to get some new stamps. I got some Lawn Fawn, Technique Tuesday and Paper Smooches stamp sets, along with a Simon Says Stamp exclusive stamp and die set.

Although this seems like a lot of things (and it is, don’t get me wrong), I have been using them. I would say I used about 50% of the products overall so far. And it’s only been a little over a week since I got most of them. I’m having a great time making all kinds of projects and coming up with new ideas for these stamp sets and Cricut cartridges.

Before I forget, I did do some major damage at Michael’s a couple of weeks ago. I got a TON of new papers and I also got the Cricut Mini albums cartridge. Stay tuned to tomorrow’s post for a blog hop that features one of the projects that I have made with this album. (Plus, you will also get the chance to see four of my fellow teammates’ projects – you won’t be disappointed!!)

I think that I am done with shopping now. I need to get back into my craft room and create. I posted a lot of new projects yesterday to my Etsy shop. If you want to see what I bought or made, check out these sites:
