Sketch Sunday #21

I finally got a Sketch Sunday done on a Sunday – go me! HAHA. This week the sketch inspiration came from the MFT Card Challenge. I usually use that because I love their stamps and their sketches – plus I use the card as my entry to their challenge every week. (Or as close to every week as I can get!!)

This week’s sketch can be found here: http://www.cardchallenges.com/search/label/sketchchallenge

For my card I used the Lawn Fawn Journaling die to cut out some Canson XL 140 lb watercolor paper. I used girl from the Pure Innocence Serenity stamp set and stamped her with some Versamark ink. I heat set it with some Ebony embossing powder from Recollections. I stamped the sentiment from the MFT You Make the Day stamp set and heat set it with the same Ebony embossing powder.

I used the same journaling die to cut out the middle of a piece of Crate Paper designer paper so that I could inlay the watercolor piece into it. I also die cut a stitched circle and a star from Sizzix and Lifestyle crafts. Then I assembled the card on a 4″ x 5 1/2″ card base.

Sketch Sunday #17

Hi everyone! It’s Sunday again. Boo. Sadly, it means another week of work. Luckily, my work week only consists of two day this week. Even so, I am dreading this Sunday night. The hours of the day are going too quickly and I still have a To Do List a mile long. And somehow, with each thing that gets checked off, at least one more thing replaces it. Ugh.

However, one of the (only) good things about Sunday is that it’s the day I get to do my Sketch Sunday videos. I really look forward to making them! As I have the past couple of Sketch Sundays, I used the My Favorite Things Sketch for my card. Their blog info is http://www.mftstamps.com/blog/category/wednesday-stamp-club/ if you want to go over and check out the sketch!

Today happens to be my Sister in Law’s birthday. I know that I should have made her card before now, but with the craft shows, work and just trying to get things done around the house, there isn’t much time left to do things ahead of time. So, I decided to use this week’s sketch to make her card. Not a bad idea – two birds with one stone, right?and

I found the stamp set from My Favorite Thing that I wanted to use for her card. She loves cats so I decided to use the stamp set Pure Innocence Kitty Costume. First, I took a Nestabilities die and cut the shape from 65 lb white card stock from Recollections. I then stamped the main image in Momento Tuxedo black ink (because I don’t have the MFT black ink – yet! It’s on order!!!) I die cut a larger die from the same collection in a light blue paper, also from Recollections. I took a sponge dauber and some Distress ink in Broken China and inked around the edges of the two shapes I cut out, as well as the background and the patterned paper.

I colored in the girl dressed as a cat using Promarkers, distress markers and Studio G markers. I stamped the girl again on patterned paper and then cut her dress out so that I could paper piece it to the image on the cut out shape. I did this by using a Zig Two Way Glue pen.

I took a piece of 110 lb white card stock and cut it down to 7″ x 10″ and folded it in half to make a 5″ x 7″ card base. I cut the blue piece of card stock for the background to an 1/8″ smaller than the card base. The patterned paper that I used is from the American Crafts Hip Hip Hooray paper pad. I used that as inspiration for the color pallet for the rest of the card. Her dress came from the paper pad Oh Darling by Crate Paper. The last pieces of card stock that I used were some scraps that I had lying around. They all come from Michael’s Recollections line – all open stock paper.

I used several My Favorite Things dies. The first is the letters dies and the second is the party hat accompanying pieces. The latter was not in the YouTube video – it was added after the video was done because I looked at the card and it seemed like it still needed a “little something”. I also used some clear glitter glue on top of the letters to give it a little sparkle.

Here’s what the card looks like all finished:

Learning to interpret a sketch

Posted on

These Sketch Sunday videos have been very fun for me. I enjoy looking at designs that other people came up with (and giving them credit in my video of course!!) and interpreting their design. I think I am getting better with each passing video and am learning what it means to interpret a sketch.
Since I am a Type A, I (sometimes) like to follow the rules and to me that means if there’s an oval shape on the card, my card must have an oval. If there are six circles on the sketch, my card will have six circles on it. But the sketch I used today helped me break free of that rule following aspect of my personality!! Below the sketch were several different card designer’s interpretations of the sketch. Some used squares instead of the ovals. Others used a tag in place of them. Some didn’t feature the exact layout of the bottom part of the card – no one said that it had to be the exact same – you just use the sketch as a guide.
And that’s what I did with this card! It turned out to be a lot less stressful because I didn’t have to look for ovals when I really wanted to use my wafer thin deckled edge dies. So I did! I also used some scarps from another project to make two of the elements.
The project turned out pretty well I think. I like it! It will be going up on Etsy soon (hopefully!). There won’t be a Sketch Sunday next week, but I should be back the following week. I have meetings for work and won’t be able to create, sadly.

Buying Haul

I recently bought from Simon Says Stamp online and then from a new Joann’s store. In my day job, I got a bunch of new stores and by one of them was a brand new Joann’s. It was the largest one I’ve ever seen and it was awesome. My local store only has maybe two aisles of scrapbooking items. This store, however, had as much as my local Michael’s or AC Moore. (If you want to see the video from the hauls, go to my YouTube – chelebelle).

SInce I bought ALL of these new supplies, I decided that I needed to use some of them to create some new projects. So I did! I made four cards (three from supplies I bought in those hauls). The first card is a kraft card base that I used Tumbled Glass distress ink and a stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop to create a swirled background. Then I used the same color ink and stamped a GIna K Design sentiment stamp on a piece of white card stock and attached it to the front of the cardbase. I added three small teal colored gems to the bottom of the sentiment piece.

The second card was made from black card stock. I then cut a piece of white cardstock a 1/4″ smaller and inked the whole piece up in three colors of distress ink – Tattered Rose, Picked Raspberry and Worn Lipstick. I did the same to a smaller piece of card stock so I would have another layer for the top of the card. I took the larger inked up piece and ran it through a Lifestyle Crafts embossing folder that has roses on it. After that I sprayed some glitter mist on it for a little shine. On the smaller piece I stamped the two birds with a heart above them from a stamp set from Joann’s (Fiskars I believe) and then matted it with some black card stock.

The third card I made was using the “XOXOXOXO” die from Simon Says Stamp. I inked up a piece of white cardstock with chipped sapphire, dusty concord and milled lavender distress ink and then ran the die through my Cuttlebug to create a bunch of ombre strips. I also used a black cardbase for this card and covered the top with some white and purple washi tape. Then I placed a “XO” strip under it and alternated them to the bottom of the card.

The final card comes from another exclusive Simon Says Stamp set. This one is a stamp and die set, which I am really loving. The centers of the “O’s” from the above pieces were used to create the polka dot background of this card. I glued them down onto the white card stock and then cut another piece of white cardstock from the Nestabilities die. I used the same three colors of distress ink to color in the background for the bra and hanger to sit on. I stamped the bra in two shades of Hero Arts Shadow ink (Pool and Tide Pool I believe). Then I used the dies to cut out the bra, hanger and the bow. The last step before putting the card together was to cut a small piece of white card stock for the sentiment. I stamped it with the two colors of the bra.

Here is a picture of all four cards, which will hopefully be going up on Etsy soon!

YouTube

I’ve had a YouTube channel for awhile, but just never had the nerve to post anything before. But, the other day I said, what do I have to lose and I uploaded my first video. Which, promptly got rejected for being too long. Me? Talk too much? Never! So, after some playing around on the site, I found a way to increase the length of video you are allowed to upload and I re-uploaded (is that a word?) my video. If you want to check it out, here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX1LKk2KMHY

I will be uploading more videos, some how-tos, tips and tricks and some videos about projects I have completed. Feel free to take a look and you like the video(s), subscribe! Thanks for stopping by. Feel free to leave a comment!
